You are looking at your teeth in the mirror and thinking about getting some cosmetic work done. Maybe whitening, maybe veneers. Then the question hits: will my health insurance cover this?
The answer for most cosmetic dental work is no — Australian health funds typically do not cover procedures done purely for appearance. Restorative work that also improves aesthetics, such as crowns after a root canal, may attract a rebate.
What is usually covered
Preventive care (check-ups, cleans, x-rays), fillings, extractions, root canal treatment and medically necessary crowns or dentures are more likely to attract a rebate, depending on your extras cover. Whitening, veneers planned only for appearance, and Invisalign for cosmetic alignment are usually out of pocket.
How we help
Fairfield Dental Studio is a preferred provider for nib and CBHS and claims on the spot through HICAPS. Ask our team about payment plans including Humm and Afterpay if you are planning a smile makeover. We will always discuss costs before treatment starts.
